Troy Hofer

July 8, 1993 — February 1, 2025

Bridgewater

Troy Hofer, 31, of Bridgewater passed away on Feb. 1st. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 7th at 10:30 am at Montrose United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, Feb. 6th at the church with a time of sharing at 7pm.

Troy Jonathan Hofer was born on July 8, 1993, to Perry and Tammy (Hart) Hofer. He was the youngest of 4 boys-- Kenny, Scott and his twin brother Zack.

Troy grew up in Bridgewater, SD and attended grade school in Bridgewater, then finished high school in Canistota. He was always proud to be a Canistota Hawk. As a kid, he and Zack spent many hours being carted to baseball games by Grandma Hofer, and Mom and Dad when they weren’t working. He spent many hours at Grandma and Grandpa’s, and he missed them greatly, after their passing. He inherited a love for cars from his dad, planning and helping do the body work on a Grand Prix for his senior project in high school. (Let’s not talk about how many vehicles he owned in his short life!). In high school he participated in track and football with many medals and awards to show for it, but was always particularly happy to relive his glory days of being a part of the 2010 and 2011 championship football teams. He enjoyed his time attending USD, getting a degree in Kinesiology, and got his shadow, his dog Gauge, while he was in college. He found his love for carpentry working over the summers and then during school and chose to pursue this as a career instead.

Troy began dating Jordyn Cleveland after the state basketball tournament in Aberdeen in 2011 (but can’t forget about the MSN days in middle school and track meets that he made sure to get to talk to her before their official dating anniversary). They were married on August 19, 2017. They welcomed Cutler James on October 10, 2019, and Briggs Nicholas joined the family on January 15, 2022. He loved his family dearly, and was impatiently waiting for his boys to join in on all the things he loved, which included fishing, hunting, taking out the side-by-side, and outdoor time with family and friends. Don’t tell Jordyn about Cutler’s trip to school in the bucket of the telehandler this winter! Any chance he got he loved blasting music with his family and friends, especially the soundtrack to Tarzan. In 2023, he ventured out to begin Hofer Construction. He also enjoyed helping others in his community by being a member of the Volunteer Fire Departments in Bridgewater joining in March of 2014 and Montrose when he moved there in 2017-- helping at many accidents, fires, and lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends.

Troy is survived by his wife, Jordyn and sons, Cutler and Briggs, his parents Perry and Tammy Hofer, brother Scott (Krystal) Hofer of Bridgewater, and their kids, Mason, Landon and Kylie, and twin brother, Zack Hofer of Spearfish. Parents-in-law Jim Cleveland and Kathy Kaufman, brothers-in-law Collin (Shey) Cleveland and Peyton Cleveland.

Troy was preceded in death by his brother Kenny, in January of 1998, Grandparents Dan and Karan Hart, Grandparents Elmer (Slug) and Evelyn Hofer, and one of his best friends, Nic Golder.

As Troy would say (no matter who you were): “Gotta go there’s a fire”, or his iconic, “Love you, bye”. And to his wife and children “I love you 3,000.”
