Steve Sievers

Steve Sievers, 85, of Bridgewater, passed away at his home on July 28th under hospice care. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Aug.1st at 7 pm at the Bridgewater Firehall.

Steven Bruce Sievers was born on November 11, 1940, to George Arthur (Abe) Sievers and Ima Sievers in Sioux Falls SD at Sioux Valley Hospital. He was the second child of four.

He lived in Bridgewater all his life and graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1958. He was employed by a construction company and spent the summer building grain elevators. He attended SDSU for a short time and then began working with his dad at Sievers Sales and Service here in Bridgewater. He married Marjorie Hofer of Dolton in September of 1961.

Over the years he was involved in many organizations including Jaycees, Shriners, Jesters, Masons, Bridgewater Fire Department (Chief), city council (mayor), and founding member of the Rural Fire District.

He continued working well into his 80’s. It was not uncommon for him to rebuild a hydraulic pump on the kitchen table. “What I am here for, is to take care of the people who took care of me for a long while.”

He loved spending time in the outdoors camping, hunting and fishing. He spent many hours in the Black Hills of South Dakota and surrounding areas hunting and fishing with his friends, kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Marge, sister Jackie (Jim) Baier, brother Terry Sievers; daughters Lori Sievers Olson, Lisa Weber (Doug) and Lana Hatch (Aaron Ressler); granddaughter Jenna Olson Hanssen (Matt); grandsons Jake (Laura), Jace and Jaxon Olson; Josh (Whitney), Jesse and Jalen Weber; Dylan (Courtney), Jon (Alyssa), and Payton Hatch; and 9 great – grandchildren with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ronnie (Skip).
