Ruth Becker

 Funeral Services for Ruth Becker, 98, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Freeman will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 11 am at Ransom Church (700 N. Main Ave.) in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 10 am on Saturday at the church prior to the Funeral Service.

  Ruth Becker was born on September 13, 1923 to Bernhardt and Kathryn (Tieszen) Ewert near Marion, SD. She died on June 21, 2022 at Good Samaritan Lutheran Manor in Sioux Falls, SD having reached the age of 98 years. She graduated from Marion High School and attended Sioux Falls College. She became a teacher at a country school for a year followed by her moving to Chicago.

 Upon returning to Marion, she married Herbert Becker on August 28th, 1946. To this union there were four children, Betty, Donna, Kathy, and Galyn. Most of her married life was spent on a farm near Marion. Later they moved to the  Freeman area where she worked for the Salem Mennonite Assisted Living Home for 17 years as a med-aid, which she enjoyed very much.

  Quilting and embroidering items for family members was a favorite past time, in addition to making blankets for the needy. Ruth also enjoyed reading many books.  Baking homemade angel food cake and creamed green beans were her specialty. Her family was delighted everytime she made these. 

  Ruth is survived by her children Betty Becker, Donna (Ray) Kirchhevel, Kathy (Jim IV) Cooper, and Galyn (Katie) Becker all of Sioux Falls, SD. 8 grandchildren, Tonia (David) Honner, Julie (Mac) McGovern, Linda Heerde, Jeremy (Resa) Kirchhevel, Jim V (Autumn) Cooper, Crystal Wilson, Jessica (Jared) Waldner, Andrew (Ashton) Becker, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother-in-law Dale Ras, sister-in-laws Vernelle Ewert, Eva Goosen, and Lily Schroeder.

  Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, parents Bernhardt and Kathryn Ewert, sisters Edith Ewert, Leila Ras, and brother Irvin Ewert, in-laws Daniel and Anna Becker, sisters-in-law Amelia Epp, Emma Schroeder, Bertha Becker, Anna Mae Rudiger, brothers-in-law Willard Becker, Velmar Rudiger, Lowell Goosen, Carl Schroeder, Lester Schroeder, Robert Epp, and 3 great great grandchildren.
