Arlo Koerner, 79, of rural Freeman passed away at his residence on Feb. 13th from natural causes. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 14th at Salem MB Church in rural Bridgewater, South Dakota. Food and fellowship will follow the service. A private family committal service will take place afterward
Arlo Koerner, 79, passed away at his home on February 13th, 2025. Born February 22, 1945, the firstborn son of Calvin and Alice (Oswald) Koerner, Arlo entered the world in the family farmhouse, surrounded by the rhythms of classic farm life. Growing up on a diverse farm operation he quickly became acquainted with the daily demands of farm work.
Arlo was well known for refrigeration repair and building custom water-source heat pumps. Many of which outperformed expectations and lasted for years beyond their projected lifespan.
Arlo graduated from Freeman High School in Freeman, South Dakota. He married Carolyn Curtis and together they had a son, Paul. He later married Angela Van Dyke, and they had a daughter, Maria.
Arlo is survived by his children: Paul (Sarah) Koerner of Freeman, SD, and their children: Brynna, Amara, Ian, and Galen. Maria (Dan) Byler of Fulton, SD, and their children: David, Andrew, Alex, Angie, Samuel, and Paul. He is also survived by his siblings: Lavern Koerner of Mesa, Arizona. Tweila (Norm) Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Iowa. One Niece and three Nephews Arlo will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Alice (Oswald) Koerner; his brother, Clinton Koerner; and his wives, Carolyn (Curtis) Koerner and Angela (Van Dyke) Koerner.
