Arliss Wentzel

Arliss Wentzel, 66, of Freeman passed away on Oct. 12th at Freeman Regional Hospital under hospice care. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17th, at 11 am at Salem Reformed Church in Menno. Visitation will begin at 10 am, 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday.

Arliss Kay (Stern) Wenzel Obituary

Arliss Kay (Stern) Wenzel was born on June 26, 1960 to Walter and Adella (Schuler) Stern in Parkston, SD. She was baptized on August 25, 1960. Arliss passed away at the Freeman Regional Hospital, Freeman, SD, on Tuesday, October 12, 2026.

Arliss’s Dad died in 1964, and in 1966 the Family moved off the farm and into Freeman. Arliss was confirmed at the Unity Lutheran Church, rural Freeman, in 1974 and graduated from Freeman High School in 1978. She married Marty (John) Wenzel on October 23, 1982 at the Unity Lutheran Church. They lived in Gillette, WY for 4 years and then made their home in Freeman, SD. In 1990 they were blessed with a son, Tyler.

Arliss had various jobs throughout her life. She especially enjoyed working with and caring for the elderly. She was a member of the Unity Lutheran Church until its closing, and eventually became a member of the Salem Reformed Church, Menno, SD.

Arliss was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Allen and Dale, and her sister-in-law, Marlys Stern.

She is survived by her son Tyler Wenzel, and her special friend Stuart Heckenlaible and his son Taylor.
